Located on Meatloaf Hill, Capitol View Trail is one of the most convenient ways to marvel at Helena and its surrounding mountains without leaving town or going for a long climb. This trail is very popular for dog walks, so be ready for wags and woofs!
From the Entertainment Trail or Easy Rider Trail, Aftershock is more or less a straight line on the west side of Mount Ascension. Without quite reaching the summit, it is still one of the best trails to explore if you are looking for expansive mountain views.
Starting in the middle of the woods, on the east side of Mount Ascension, the Eddye McClure West Trail is a lovely hike up to the summit of the mountain. Offering both shaded and sunny areas, this trail allies whimsicality and stunning views with a rewarding climb.
From DeFord Trailhead, Eagle Scout is a pleasant hike on the west side of Mt Ascension. This trail is a little over a half mile, and is a great way to access the Easy Rider Loop. Eagle Scout Trail switchbacks through pine trees and dappled sunlight.
The Rocky Road Trail is located on Bompart Hill, and accessible via Lime Kiln Trailhead. A fair amount of social trails are adjacent to Rocky Road, but all roads lead to Home. Throughout the journey, gorgeous views of the entire valley and of Mount Helena are to be seen.
The Prickly Pear Trail connects the Beattie Street Trailhead and the Lime Kiln Road Trailhead. Take in views of Mount Ascension, Rodney Ridge, and the Helena Valley as you hike through a pine forest. Shuttle from one trailhead to the other, or hike it as an out-and-back.
