FOUR COURSES, SIX EVENTS
Four courses start and finish in the heart of Montana’s capital. Runners go from historic streets to rugged single-track in minutes. Choose from four races – 50K, 25K, 12K, and 5K – or two hike events – 12K Hike and 5K Dog Walk. No matter your age or ability, we have an event for you.
BIG SKY EXPERIENCE
Mount Helena and Mount Ascension are two of the largest urban parks in the country. Rising 1,400 feet above the Helena valley, these summits feature bird’s-eye views of the Prickly Pear region, including Montana’s capitol, the Elkhorn Mountains, the Big Belt Mountains, and the Sleeping Giant.
HAPPY TRAILS
Helena’s homegrown Happy Trails vibe brings the fun. From rainbow wigs and cactus costumes to renegade aid stations and drumlines, race day is fun for everyone. The good vibes continue at the legendary finish line party with live music, local beer and food, games and entertainment.
LAND AND PEOPLE
Prickly Pear Land Trust connects land and people through conservation, recreation, and education. Don’t Fence Me In raises crucial funds and support for this work. Every stride you take supports Montana’s best urban trail system, wildlife habitat, agricultural lands, and open space.
ELITE TRAIL RUNNING
Don’t Fence Me In is the ultimate spring kick-off for the region’s endurance community. The 50K traverses five ridges and summits two peaks. Rugged terrain and high-caliber competition draw world-class athletes from across the West. The 25K and 50K are both UTMB qualifiers.
GRASSROOTS MAGIC
Volunteers Kris Larson and Martin Miller started the race in 2000 to raise awareness for Prickly Pear Land Trust. This grassroots event has grown into a regional celebration that attracts thousands, but it’s still powered by our volunteer race committee and 200 event volunteers.
Sponsorship Opportunities
The Don’t Fence Me In Trail Run connects lands and people in west-central Montana. Event sponsors benefit our entire community for generations to come. We invite you to help us raise support and awareness for open spaces, agriculture, wildlife, and outdoor education.
