Happy Snails! S-no-w problem!

Run 1 of the Happy Snails Club was a great success!

We had a great first meeting of the Happy Snails running club! Nine people of various running/non-running backgrounds showed up. Together we ran about 2 miles with 350 feet of elevation gain. We started at the Old Shooting Range Trailhead on Davis Gulch, ran – slowly! – up the switchbacks to Rodney Meadow and then up to the ridge. We learned the value of spiked running shoes and/or YakTrax. The snow conditions on the trail were akin to running on a slippery sand dune. We also learned that there is absolutely nothing wrong with walking when you feel the need.

“I’m impressed how well everyone ran,” said Don’t Fence Me In Course Director and Happy Snails mentor Martin Miller. “The snow makes it a challenge! My advice for the day day is be patient with yourself. When the trails clear, it will be a lot easier to contemplate cruising the 12k course.”

Join us next Tuesday (and every Tuesday until Don’t Fence Me In on May 12) at noon at the Old Shooting Range Trailhead, which is the large parking area on the right side of Davis Gulch as you’re heading south.

Walkers are welcome!
