Join us this summer for our events that are free and open to the public!
Get out there! Prickly Pear Land Trust will be leading a community walk at the freshly opened Tenmile Creek Park on the west end of Helena. If you’re new to town, a neighbor, curious about the park and Helena’s water source, or just want an excuse to take a stroll, join us! The event is family-friendly, wheelchair accessible, and casual, but always prepare for weather.
Meet at the parking lot/trailhead at 1505 Williams St, Helena, MT 59602 on September 11th at 5:30 p.m.
Contact Travis @ PPLT with any questions – 442-0490; [email protected]
Join Prickly Pear Land Trust staff and volunteers in giving back to the trails that are such a big part of living in Helena. These events are fun for the entire family and we always have a variety of tasks to match everyone’s ability and interest. Prickly Pear Land Trust will provide the tools and instruction on trail work. We also have gloves, if you need them. You need to bring:
We typically work rain or shine. However, we will not work if there are storms in the area that contain high winds or lightning. In the event of unfavorable weather, we will make the determination to reschedule the event 1.5 hours before the workday and post the cancellation notice on our website and Facebook page.
Several trail maintenance opportunities are available throughout the season. Mark your calendar now and plan to participate in one of the following service events.

Please join us as we take on some needed activities on Mt. Ascension. We will meet at the Arrowroot Trailhead between 5:15 and 5:30 and get going from there. Depending on the number of volunteers we will split up in 2-3 groups working on various tasks. One group will help pull blue flagging off trees in the units that have been thinned on the backside of Mt. Ascension (making our viewshed prettier). One group will help re-close the social trail that crosses private property between 2006 and the Mt. Ascension Loop Trail (maintaining good relations with private property owners and ensuring future access). Finally, one group will help remove trees and stumps that are impeding the Mt. Ascension Loop Trail (making the trail happier).
Community Trail Work Day – September 17, at 5:30 p.m.
Meet at Old Shooting Range Parking Lot at 5:30 p.m. Bring work gloves if you have them. Wear close toed shoes. PPLT will provide work gloves for those who don’t have them as well as water, tools and instruction and supervision for the work to be accomplished.

Join us for a PPLT Volunteer Appreciation BBQ, August 20th. Your work on the trails, at community events, behind the scenes, along the race, and in our office makes this community closer and our work possible. You are our rock. So leave the gloves and work boots behind, the only shoveling required is shoveling in some grilled fare! As a tiny token of our great appreciation, we will have food, beer, wine and fun prizes for our action folks.
Location: Spring Meadow Resources Pavilion – Parking is available at Spring Meadow Resources or you can hike over from Tenmile Creek Park.
Time: August 20, 5:30-7:30
