Welcome to the Prickly Pear Land Trust

Heritage Lands Program

You may have seen the recent article in the Helena Independent Record about the Heritage Lands Program. Essentially this is a landowner-driven outreach process to develop the tool box of conservation options for rural landowners. We are basing our program on Missoula's hugely successful program that led to a $10 million open space bond in 2006. The program seeks two land owners from each of Lewis and Clark County's six planning districts. The group will meet and host public meetings out in the county over the next six months and hopefully come to some consensus about what tools are appropriate here. If you are interested in volunteering in this capacity, please contact us by clicking here. The result will be a report to the County Commissioners, followed by an effort to begin implementing these recommendations soon after. The project is being facilitated by Mary Vandenbosch and Jeff Erikson of Helena.
